He also learned not to bring the past into new chapters of life

Gavin Rossdale calls “the gross and lopsided spectre of the crumbling of my marriage” his most embarrassing moment.

Rossdale took part in a Q&A session with The Guardian and opened up about his divorce from Gwen Stefani back in 2015.

Rossdale has three sons with Stefani, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, as well as a daughter, Daisy Lowe, from his relationship with Pearl Lowe. Despite the embarrassment he felt from his divorce, Rossdale called the time when he was the happiest “when I had all four kids – Daisy, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo – staying with me on my birthday. It was magical.”

Stefani echoed similar sentiments about feeling embarrassed over her divorce in a 2016 Glamour profile.

“I don’t think you’ll talk to one person who didn’t make it in a marriage who’s not gonna feel that way. The intention of being married is the vow, right? You want to put everything into it to make it a success. And all I had to look at was the huge success of my parents: They just had their fiftieth anniversary. I had to work really hard at marriage, all the time, like everybody, but ours was extra hard, when you add that we’re from different countries, both of us being in music, and celebrity,” she said.

“[Marriage] was the one thing I didn’t want to fail at. People can say whatever they want to about me… and I don’t get too affected. But I didn’t want them to think I was a failure. There’s nothing weird about how I felt.”

Later on in the interview, Stefani spoke of the need to focus on the future. This is a sentiment she shares with Rossdale as he reflects on one of his most important life lessons.

“Life is just a series of chapters, he said. “It’s essential to try not to bring older chapters into new chapters.”
