Annette's Picks: Weekend Guide for Nov 9-11

November 8, 2018

Another big weekend of fairs and festivals and there is reportedly going to be some actual fall weather too! Whatever your plans are, have a fun weekend!!  -Annette

St Rita Pecan Festival - The school festival at St Rita in Harahan was the spot of the picture above. It's a fun family event that one of my best friends organized every year so I might be a little bias, but she's since passed the torch and it's still a fun way to spend the day with the kids or pretend to be a grown-up without kids and catch the bands at night.

Bayou Road Balloon Festival - Hot air balloons are the star, but it's also got all the other festival things we expect like rides, music and food. You can pay to take a tethered ride in a hot air balloon or just catch what they call the "glow" when they light all the ballooons up at once. Really cool! Admission is $7 cash only at the gate at Sidney Torres Park in Chalmette.

St Clement Oyster Fest - This one is right by my house and one of the things I love about it is the amount of rides for the really little kids. However, I'm always surprised at the lack of oysters. But Dragos is there and that's good enough for me. Metairie at W. Esplanade and Cleary.

Boudin, Bourbin and Beer - Emeril Lagasse's annual charity event with boudin inspired dishes from dozens of chefs from the city, region and around the country. There's usually a national music headliner and lots of beer and drinks to be had. Which is good since tickets are not cheap, $150. Champions Square on Friday 11/9 only.

Westwego Cypress Swamp Fest - Bands all throughout the day and night and since the location is actually at the Westwego Fisheries Market - safe to say the food is gonna be pretty good. All 3 days, Fri - Sun.

Oak Street Po-Boy Festival - If you like to eat your po-boys with 50,000 of your closest friends...this is for you. Ok, truthfully this isn't one of my personal picks since it's just so crowded, but if that doesn't bother you then go eat some great po-boys! And maybe bring me some. :) Sunday only on Oak Street at the Riverbend.
