Low Cost Vet Services for St Tammany Parish

May 9, 2018

This is huge if you still need to take care of your pet's veterinary needs!

St. Tammany Humane Society introduces four new veterinary programs to reduce the homeless population in St. Tammany Parish and keep animals out of shelters.

Operation CatSnip
On the first and third Wednesday of each month, the community veterinary clinic at St. Tammany Humane Society located at 20384 Harrison Ave. in Covington will offer feline spays/neuters for only $25! This program is open to community or feral cats.
For many years, the no-kill rescue and community clinic has provided two annual “Spay Days.” The entire facility closes its doors to spay/neuter approximately 150 cats in one business day. “Over the years, we’ve noticed an increasing need to offer more days like these. Unfortunately, two Spay Days a year were not reducing the overpopulation problem like we intended,” says STHS Director of Veterinary Medicine and Services, Dr. Estelle Felarise. “We created Operation CatSnip allowing us to offer these surgeries at a reduced-cost year round!”
The mission of the program is to decrease the number of homeless kittens born each year. Operation CatSnip is available to everyone! There are no location or financial restrictions. Cats are not required to have previous shots before surgery. Only 40 appointments will be available each Wednesday.
For more information or to make your appointment, email frontdesk@sthumane.org or visit sthumane.org/catsnip.
100 Vouchers for Low Cost Neuters
St. Tammany Humane Society community veterinary clinic is now offering $30 neuters for male dogs. There are only 100 spots available so make sure to make your appointment today!
Not only does having your animal fixed reduce the number of unwanted litters in our community, there are also many health benefits to getting your dog neutered including a lower risk of cancer and a longer life span.
This opportunity is open to any male dog in our area. There are no restrictions on age or breed of the pup. “As a no-kill animal rescue, our goal is to minimize the number of homeless puppies born each year, in turn reducing the number who are euthanized at municipal shelters, said STHS CEO, Scott Bernier.
Reservations for this program must be made in person at 20384 Harrison Ave. in Covington. For more information, please email frontdesk@sthumane.org.
$20 Microchips
For the month of May, St. Tammany Humane Society will be offering microchipping for only $20!
A microchip is a permanent identification tag inserted under the skin of your pet to ensure the safe return if ever lost. The chip is about the size of a piece of rice and the process is just as easy as any other vaccination with your veterinarian. In the event your animal is ever lost, they will be scanned by a chip reader which will relay your information to the animal shelter or veterinary clinic who performs the scan.
“Microchips saves lives by keeping lost animals out of shelters, something we are very passionate about here at St. Tammany Humane Society,” says STHS CEO, Scott Bernier. “We want to make sure everyone regardless of address, income, number of animals, etc. has the opportunity to keep their pets safe,” he added.
There are no requirements to take advantage of this offer. Microchipping is by appointment only. For more information or to schedule your appointment, please email frontdesk@sthumane.orgtoday
$20 Heartworm Testing ONE DAY ONLY!
On Tuesday, May 15th, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, St. Tammany Humane Society will offer heartworm testing for only $20 per dog.
Heartworm disease is a deadly disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. The larvae move to the dog’s heart where they become mature adults. Heartworms cause severe damage to the heart, resulting in heart failure and death. Because mosquitos are so common in the south, heartworm disease is prevalent in our state. This is why veterinarians and animal care specialists encourage prevention. The first step to making sure your pet is safe is to get them tested!
To take advantage of this offer, appointments must be made in advance. Tests are on a first come, first serve basis. There are only 75 tests available so act today! For more information or to schedule your appointment, please email frontdesk@sthumane.orgtoday!
