Go 4th on the River Dueling Barges Fireworks Show

New Orleans Riverfront
1 Canal Street
New Orleans, LA 70130
United States

Event Description:

Celebrate America's 242nd birthday along the historic New Orleans Riverfront with the FREE Go 4th on the River Dueling Barges Fireworks Show at 9:00 p.m. on July 4th! Listed by Fodor's as one of America's best Fourth of July fireworks displays, this spectacular fireworks display can be seen from the East and West Banks of the river from the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk to Crescent Park at French Market. This year has been the most challenging in 28 years, but thanks to Zito Companies LLC, Magic 101.9, WWL 870AM, 105.3FM and WWL.com, The Westin New Orleans Canal Place, New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, and The Berger Company, along with New Orleans & Company, J&M Displays, T.T. Barge, Budweiser, and more than twenty Community Partners, this cherished tradition will light the skies over the Mississippi River.

This NOLA Tricentennial year July 4th display in New Orleans celebrates everything unique about our city. A dramatic, patriotic soundtrack has been developed, and will be played on the "J&M Displays" app. Hundreds of beautiful fireworks have been choreographed to paint the dark sky above the Mississippi River starting at 9:00 p.m. Red, white, and blue colors will be seen often throughout the display, of course, but all other colors of the rainbow will entertain the vast audience on riverboats as well as on both sides of the river.

"Having identical displays from two barges in the Mississippi River blocks away from each other makes this annual display very unique," says J & M Displays Gulf Coast Director David Spear. "And being able to watch the pyrotechnic production from the French Quarter is simply very special. Another extraordinary feature of this display is to hear the reverberations of 'booms' bouncing around the many skyscrapers downtown. We can hear that out on the barge, so I know it must be loud on land as well. Come out to celebrate America. We'll do our part to make it entertaining and dramatic," Spear promises.

The Riverfront Marketing Group through J & M Displays will again provide an iPhone and Android app that will allow anyone who downloads the app to hear the passionately patriotic show music in real time in sync to the fireworks. Simply go to Go4thontheRiver.com and scan the QR code. When the app is downloaded, click on "Available Events." After the screen loads, click on Go 4th NOLA to listen to the music when the show starts at 9:00 p.m.

Come down early to 4th Fest in Crescent Park in the French Market District. It begins at 4:30 p.m., with free live music by The World War II Museum's Victory Belles at 5:30 p.m., followed by Bag of Donuts at 7:00 p.m., leading up to the 9:00 p.m. Dueling Barges Fireworks Show. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs to enjoy the show. (Coolers, glass, and tents are not allowed.) Visit www.FrenchMarket.org for schedule details.

By popular demand the French Market District will also present the third annual Fireworks Photography Workshop with Zack Smith Photography in Crescent Park. Participants are guaranteed a VIP riverfront viewing area to photograph the 9:00 p.m. fireworks show and learn about unique techniques to get the best photos ever! Register at www.ZackSmith.com.

The Port of New Orleans will bring out the General Roy S. Kelley fireboat again this year with its famed water show with plumes of red, white, and blue fountains beginning at 6:00 p.m. and leading up to the 9:00 p.m. fireworks show. Built in 1994, the General Kelley was used by the Port of New Orleans to fight fires, give tours, and conduct search-and-rescue missions on the Mississippi River. The General Kelley is 95 ft. long and 16 ft. wide with a 7 ft. draft. It seats 24 and typically has a crew of three.
